A Day in Selfridges Pt. 2: Denim Dreams

Lying somewhere between Picasso's blue period and a foray into James Dean's wardrobe is the Denim Studio in Selfridges - the world's biggest collection of clothes fashioned out of a fabric which was originally designed for cowboys.
We wandered around the mountains of denim and then drifted  into The Fit Studio, where we found a bevy of experts ready to chat all things denim. A team of riveted elves are also housed back there and in just one hour they can have your jeans fitting you like a stonewashed glove.

Welcome to Denimland!

In Denimland, the DJ wears a Canadian Tuxedo...

... even the cushions are fashioned out of denim...

...and the shoppers wear moody blue.

But with the mesmerizing Jeanius Bar...

....which has a myriad of denim cultural references, including the perfection that is Kenickie, Danny et al's James Dean inspired look...

....and chatty Chucks - who was on hand to talk about the perils of  "pancake arse"....

...we were anything but blue.

A Day in Selfridges Pt. 1: In a Barbie World

Some might think that Barbie is a bit of a flake, drifting, as she has, from one career to another - vet, ballet dancer and flight attendant to name but a few. We, however, prefer to think of her as the master of reinvention, a veritable renaissance woman, as she now turns her molded hand to the role of shopkeeper, with the opening of her perfectly pink paradise in Selfridges's brand new toy department. To celebrate her latest venture she has been given three very different makeovers by three of the UKs brightest fashion stars - Fred Butler, Nasir Mazhar and Sister By Sibling have all created limited edition looks for her and we skipped along to take a peek.

Our day began with a sudden downpour and forced Siobhan to utilize her woodland skills of hair protection aka the tight low-bun. It keeps your curl from falling out in humid/wet weather. After that we were off to Selfridges new toy department on the 4th floor!

Fred Bulter's origami design definitely made us question if we could recreate our own paper dresses, but we thought twice after contemplating the logistics of sitting down (among other things...). Nevertheless, it was refreshing to see Barbie doing a spot of man repelling in this Lady Gagaesque ensemble.

(On the right is actually a Gustav Klimt inspired doll but our magpie eyes fell in love with her gold gown and so we had to include Adele Bloch-Bauer I)

Barbie knows how to show it off or cover it up in Nasir Mazhar and Sister by Sibling, respectively. The string-dress isn't really our cup of tea but Barbie looks ladylike, stylish and cosy in Sister by Siblings knitted wares.

That awkward moment when you actually want Barbie's shoes. Those plain, pink pumps never did it for us but this, this we could work with.

Siobhan enamored with a 1960s version of Catwoman. She had a statement necklace and gold waist belt back in the day. We like the fact that in the 60s version she actually let herself floss some of her loot.

Siobhan's outfit
Floral top - Zara
Leigh Jeans - Topshop
Pointy D'orsay Flats - Chinese Laundry
Spiked bracelet - C. Wonder
Spiked earring - ASOS

Outfit teaser of Miriam! The next episode of our day in Selfridges has her full look, so stay tuned!
